Calavera day of the dead game review

Played in casual mode and it was very easy and relaxing. My "how did they do that? What a neat twist! Date published: Rated 5 out of 5 by Tikatoy from Imaginative, gorgeous theme This game reminded me immediately of Grim Fandango, the classic adventure game inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead.

All of the characters and even the animals resemble skeletons, but in a stylized, rather than grotesque, way. There is a bit of a steampunk element as well; the world is populated with robots with skeletal features, yet another nice touch. The gameplay is very enjoyable. The hint system is an animated book who has his own personality and very clearly indicates how to proceed.

The journal is pretty good too, but at the end of the game a few of the pages get added in the wrong order. The puzzles were refreshing; about half of them were action-oriented but of the timing-based rather than reaction-based variety. I enjoy logic puzzles, but they tend to get repetitive in these types of games; action puzzles are a nice change of pace. The art is gorgeous.

There is a wonderful use of 3D objects seamlessly integrated with painted backgrounds. The elevator has giant robot arms that climb up and down a rope to move between floors and town inhabitants enjoy sports like undead rooster fights and mechanized cockroach racing. Overall, this is a fresh and welcome addition to the genre.

Rated 5 out of 5 by tutortime from A very different game. Really loved this game. Chose it because of the high reviews it got. Different and interesting story line, hidden objects and mini games.

Skip button available if needed. Map available so you can quickly go to another location. Rated 5 out of 5 by Myndee from Breath of fresh air in many ways I wanted to chime in on this game because I thought it was so great to have something come out that was different. Not in the sense that the story was ground breaking or the HOS's or puzzles were dramatically different, but because the environment and characters were all so charming and I think you had to find skulls or something.

The hidden object scenes were beautifully done and the rest of the artwork was fabulous. The SE includes a map that lets you know where there are actions to take and also lets you jump to locations.

I would definitely encourage the casual gamers out there to give this a try. I think you will be surprised. A definite buy for me this weekend - I'm thinking the CE because of the sale. Are you sure you want to purchase it? Quirky atmosphere and funny characters! Travel to the Land of the Dead! Unlockable arcade mini-games.

The music was quirky and fit right in with the memorable characters. Although most of the characters were skeletons, they were not gruesome, at least not for me.

They were entertaining and the book guide amused me. The main storyline ended in a satisfying way and the bonus game for the collector's edition gave a little extra.

I wasn't rushing along to just finish up the game and move on to something else.. I was really interested in seeing what I'd have to do next. The really nice thing I liked about the collector's edition was the paper craft that was provided along with the usual wallpapers, music and bonus game. It's definitely worth checking out as I was hooked immediately! Date published: Decent storyline, great graphics, good music, fun characters.

My only complaint is the puzzles were on the easy side, but I really enjoyed this game! It had moments that made me think and work.

I found that I wanted to keep going back and finish the game for a change. Most games now days are so tweeny and boring. Not here. You get mature game play. I like the whole feel of the game, the Day of the Dead theme is Great!

Give the demo a try, it is a bit slow in the beginning. Rated 5 out of 5 by mallowb05 from High paced and fun. Cross the border between life and death in this festive Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure game. Buy this game, Get 3 Punches! Game System Requirements OS: Reviews at a Glance.
