In the end, Dragon Ball Z: Sagas fails in all departments. It's nowhere near as fun or functional as the Budokai games, and completely fails in taking the series into a new direction. Admittedly, the concept sounds fun. Assuming the role of your favorite DBZ character and running amok in free-form environments sounds like a damn good time. Unfortunately, improper execution detonates any fun Sagas potentially contained. Videogames based on the Dragonball franchise has always been hit-and-miss in terms of quality.
The main factors being. Dragonball's explosive, fast-paced, and planet-busting fights are very difficult to reproduce faithfully on yesteryear's limited hardware. With the console generation that includes the Gamecube, the 2nd reason is no longer acceptable as the hardware capabilities of the 3 major consoles are already mature enough to simulate faster-than-lightspeed brawls between spiky-haired individuals, along with energy beams and projectiles that are large enough to level mountains.
This means Dragonball Z: Sagas is nothing but a lazy attempt by a game developer to cash in on the franchise. It's so awful that you'd feel like Bandai should be the one paying you when you play this lousy excuse for a beat-em-up. You have the ability to punch, kick, and throw a ki-blast but it wouldn't matter at all because the response time is so slow you'll end up just mashing the buttons and hoping that some sort of attack will come out in time to hit the enemies.
Which reminds me - the enemies are boring, repetitive, and nothing more than palette swaps outside of the bosses. To avoid this, get up in the air and stay there; Captain Ginyu cannot fly.
When you are up in the air, you can charge your Ki or a special move then keep launching attacks at him. He should be defeated after awhile. Once in SS1, do only simple combos with a lot of buttons involved; the more buttons the better. Try using the first two combos that you learn. Note: You must have Combo Breaker. Try not to use Ki moves unless you have to; the longer you must charge, the more open you are to attacks. Either dodge them, or when you are close to him, punch or kick him.
He will dodge your Galick Guns by teleporting. Just punch him until Piccolo arrives. When fighting Vegeta, stay in the air the entire time. Dodge his Galic Guns. When he uses his other attack, it will only affect you if you are on the ground. While that attack occurs, Vegeta will be vulnerable. Lock on to him with L and hold X to hit him with a Kamehameha Wave. Keep doing this until he is defeated. You should not lose any health by doing this.
Additionally, fly in the air so you do not get hit, then stay in the air. Hold X, then when Goku says Kame, release X. It will almost always hit him. Also, dodge his moves and get up to him. Keep attacking with B 2 , Y 2. Do not stop doing this to prevent Vegeta from guarding.
Sometimes he will make a quick guard and start beating you again. Note: He is very fast. Fly while shooting Mesenkos at Nappa. Nappa will eventually start shooting blasts of energy that paralyze you. Quickly dodge them and fire at him. When fighting Freiza as Goku, you can only hurt him when you are a Super Saiyan. Try not to use Ki moves unless you have to; the longer you must charge, the more open you are to attacks. Either dodge them, or when you are close to him, punch or kick him.

When he charges up his Death Ball, use the Quick Teleport if purchased to get to him and deliver the blows to hurt him or charge up your Super Saiyan meter.
Try using only punches and kicks, as he will dodge the Kamehame Wave. It will only hit and hurt him if you are Super Saiyan and if done while he is charging up his Death Ball. Keep hitting him until the Ki bar for Super Saiyan is full. If he teleports behind you, use a combo. Note: Do not waste your Ki on Cell.
