Shown in dark, sinister colors and pitched at the brave, they're almost cynical in their pursuit of lap records and serious performance over fun and light-heartedness.
They lack the playful, joyous energy of the pastel-colored cars that used to claim real estate on bedroom walls. The Diablo was one of those, a pop-up-headlight-adorned wonder that bridged the gap between the classic Countach and the more corporate Murcielago. So even when it's aimed at collectors—an SV version with a package named after Monterey would attract those types—it never took itself too seriously.
This one came in a beautiful, look-at-me shade of deep purple. Its wheels were chrome, demanding attention that the black-wheeled supercars of today pretend they don't need. And some, like this one, even had massive "SV" graphics that appear to have been designed by the person that did those Nineties disposable cups.
