Sbs 2008 w3svc log files

The C drive was running out of space and I had a hard time rebooting yesterday. It was stuck on configuring updates, no step 1 of 3 or 2 of 3, just configuring updates. I had to remote in using logmein Pro and move some files off the C drive to another drive temporarily so the server could finish configuring. I rebooted in the first place because of the large pagefile, now I need to know where all the space went. Symantec defs were one folder and not there is another log folder inside inetpub.

Is it safe to delete those? Join our community to see this answer! Yesterday's log file is going to tell you lots about what was occurring. I find it hard to believe that it was all WSUS traffic. I wonder if something else didn't start banging on the server computer. Get that larger log file off of the machine and have a look at it.

The "probably" fields are because I can't be sure without seeing more of the file. The header on the file will tell you the format for sure.

You need to get a look at that 1. Logging disabled on the site will prevent the hard drive from filling up again, but you want to know what's happening, behind the scenes, since it's going to be impacting server performance in some manner. Ultimately, you want to get to the bottom of the cause and then get logging enabled again so that you have an audit trail if you have to track down strangeness again in the future.

SBS console is behaving normally. Apparently it's designed to do a crazy amount of logging. Go figure. On one side of the equation, you still want to figure out why you are having so much log traffice being generated no suggestions there Those text files compress nicely, and since you rarely open the log files, you will likely not even notice that they are compressed.

On a related note, you may want to consider turning off logging permanently for the WSUS site. Granted it may be useful for troubleshooting WSUS problems, but you can always turn it on as needed. Having said that, I would look into the root cause of all the log entries and address that issue, which will then make my previous sentence a moot point. I'm experiencing exactely the same problem and just stumbled over it because the system partition was filling up.

There are 2 options to control the growth of these logfiles, IIS to disable logging or maximize the logfile size or the task added in sbs rollup 5 or sbs to control the maximum number of days logfiles are kept. If there is a task that clears out these log files as you say, did you not fancy sharing your information about it? Can you please help me to proceed further. Really you guys saved my day. Too much concerned when the disk drive grown by 25GB, the disk ran out of space and application stopped working.

Much appreciated. Thanks for the heads up as to why my drive was quickly shrinking, I gained back at least 30GB of my drive by reading this article…. Thank you so much. This is very good explained. This logging trouble stops working of exchange, in cause of low diskspace. Cheers buddy. Just had the same issue on a new SBS server installed 1 week before Christmas I have relocated the logs now and dropped the days history to 45 days in the WSUS cleanup schedule.
